For those of you who don't know, MSDN stands for Microsoft Developers Network. With this account you can download a plethora of Microsoft products for free. I downloaded both the 32bit and the 64bit client of Windows 7 in the middle of last week. I also need to download Microsoft Visual Studio, for programming.

I had some problems with installing Windows 7 on my laptop and my desktop. I burned the 64bit ISO to a DVD, popped it into my laptop to check it was working, and it was. Then I went to burn the 32bit ISO to a DVD, but it didn't work the first time, the second time, or the third time.

I eventually installed it onto my laptop, but my desktop is still out of commission.

MSDN is a fantastic thing, it gives students like myself the opportunity to revise what they've been learning in school without having to shell out the best part of £500 for the software. So, for this I can't complain.

I can complain about not having access to my desktop though.

Cameron

First day of College

So my first day of college is over. What have I learned? Well, nothing I didn’t already know, with the exception of very basic web design;

Tomorrow will hold much more for me as I’ll be diving into the world of programming and computer architecture.

College aside, it’s the September Apple launch tomorrow, and there is a lot of speculation as to what will be getting released. I have heard from some sources that the 4th generation iPod Touch is due to get the crisp, hi-def resolution screen that the iPhone 4 has. The iPad and iPhone 4 also look set to get iOS 4.01 (citation), so multi-tasking will finally be available on the iPad, although I’m yet to see the appeal of it as a product.

Once more information becomes available throughout the launch, I’ll be Tweeting away like mad. Look out for my friend trying hopelessly to pick holes in everything I say about Apple. (He’s an Apple loyalist, in case you don’t quite suss that one out.)

Anyway, that’s all for now.

Cameron

In the Beginning...

I am writing this, my first ever blog post from a Starbucks cafe in Dundee. How clichéd. I’m not entirely sure what is going to go into this post since I haven’t done this before, but bear with me.

I’m a 20 year old guy from Carnoustie, Scotland, and I have just started a Computing Software Development course at the college here. Getting onto this course prompted me to start a blog, the contents of which will be primarily tech related, but there may be injections of random musings, or anecdotes.

I had my induction day at college today, where we were given our enrolment forms, library cards, and network IDs and passwords. Since I’ve been to the college before, 2 years ago, to learn about Business Management, this was all par for the course for me. I’m starting the course on Tuesday, and I really can’t wait, as programming is something I’ve really wanted to learn about.

Seeing as I’ve never written a blog before, and have even less knowledge of how to design it, I doubt many people will see this post. Hell, I doubt many people will read the blog in general, but if I don’t write it, there’s no chance of anyone ever reading it. This post will probably just end up in the ‘About me’ section.

In the future I’ll probably go to Uni, after my two-year college course, to further my studies in the computing field.

I’ll be scouring the Internet for tech related articles to either quote in my blog, with a link to the source, or I’ll try and be witty and creative and write some of my own stuff. What I will write about, no one knows.

I’ll be promoting this blog as much as possible as I want to make this popular, informative, and above all, worthwhile.

Anyway, enough from me, I hope you enjoy the blog.
Cameron
